JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of cabin burglaries in the mountain areas of the county, going back to the beginning of this year.

Nineteen burglaries have been reported, in cabins from around Interstate 70 to the north to the Buffalo Creek area to the south, with thieves swiping everything from jewelry, safes and guns to bicycles and a vehicle in one case.

The break-ins have happened when the cabins were empty, and investigators said there doesn't appear to be a trend among the burglaries. A few of the cabins have been unlocked, but most of the burglaries happened from a forced entry.

Thieves have also stolen outdoor gear, credit cards, telescopes, tools, clothing, furniture and generators from the cabins, the sheriff's office said. Here's where the burglaries have happened:

• 100 block of Soda Creek Rd
• 800 block of Elk Rest Rd

• 20400 block of Buffalo Creek Rd
• 20200 block of Buffalo Creek Rd

Two white or Hispanic men have been described as being possibly involved in some of the break-ins, but investigators have no suspect information for most of the incidents.

The sheriff's office reminded residents to lock their doors and keep an light on outside of their cabins after sunset.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867) or the sheriff's office's tip line at 303-271-5612. The sheriff's office asked anyone who sees a suspicious person or vehicle to call the non-emergency number at 303-277-0211.
