DENVER – The Mile High City may be relatively young, compared to East Coast cities, but that doesn’t make the many historic buildings in the city any less significant.

Denver (called Denver City back then) was just a small settlement when residents decided to incorporate in 1861. Soon after, commercial buildings, homes and government buildings began sprouting up. And many of those buildings constructed during that time are still around today.

Here are 10 historic images of Denver’s oldest buildings that are still standing tall today. The images and information in the following gallery are courtesy of the Denver Public Library Digital Collection.
