JOHNSTOWN, Colo. -- Every year, a group of ladies in Johnstown comes together to make blankets, quilts and other comforts for people in need.

This year, they outdid themselves.

The group, which calls itself the Persian Pickle Piecers based on the book, The Persian Pickle Club, made 76 quilts and fleece blankets for victims of the East Troublesome and Cameron Peak wildfires.

“All of them are special to me,” said Nanette Fornof of the Johnstown area. “More from the aspect of our group and knowing that we all came together and poured our hearts into these projects.”

“I love this quilt group and all that it does,” said Judy Scarlett of Windsor.

The group typically gets together a few times a month, but this year – they’ve been sewing and quilting alone because of the pandemic.

They’ve delivered countless blankets and quilts to nursing homes, battered women’s shelters and other places in need.

“It just feels good to give to people in need,” said Laurie Forte of Johnstown. “We hope it gives them a little bit of comfort.”

The ladies loaded up all the blankets on Wednesday afternoon and Denver7 plans to deliver them to fire victims next week.
