DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. -- A man is dead after an hours-long standoff at a home in an unincorporated area of Douglas County.

Deputies were called to a disturbance in the 6100 block of Westview Circle late Sunday. The neighborhood is west of Parker Road and north of Bayou Gulch Road.

When units arrived they heard shots from inside a home, according to Lt. Robert Rotherham with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A SWAT team responded to the neighborhood around 11 p.m.

Residents in the immediate area received a Code Red alert warning them to shelter in place, Rotherham told Denver7.

Deputies said the man was using multiple guns and firing through the home's walls to the exterior.

After deputies arrived, two people ran from the home.

At about 1:30 a.m., a fire broke out inside the home and firefighters responded, with SWAT shielding the firefighters from gunfire ans they worked to put out the flames, deputies said.

Using flash-bang grenades, deputies were able to get inside the home, where they found a man dead. It wasn't immediately clear how he died.

Deputies said they did not fire any shots.

Denver7 will update this story as more information becomes available.
