LONE TREE, Colo. — The Douglas County Coroner’s Office has identified the shoplifting suspect in Thursday evening’s officer-involved shooting as Kenneth Joseph Sisneros, 34, of Westminster.

Lone Tree police responded to reports of a theft at the Macy’s at Park Meadows around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, said Lone Tree Police Department Spokesperson Denisse Coffman. Officers were chasing two suspects on foot outside the mall when Sisneros allegedly pulled out a handgun. In response, officers fired shots at him. Sisneros was hit by the gunfire and died at the scene.

A second suspect — who police believe is a white woman — was able to escape. Police are looking for her.

During a news conference Thursday evening, Lone Tree Chief of Police Kirk Wilson said the three officers involved in the shooting had minor injuries – a couple of bruises and sprains. Nobody from the public was injured. He said the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will take over the investigation.

Anyone with information on this crime should call Lone Tree Police at 303-799-0533.

This is the first officer-involved shooting in Lone Tree for 2019 and the 17th officer-involved shooting in Colorado this year.
