DENVER – Good morning! Here’s what you need to know today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. 

1. 16th Street Mall smoking ban takes effect
Smokers who frequent the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver will have to wait until they’re off the mall before lighting up. The new smoking ban goes into effect today.

2. Free HIV testing for World AIDS Day
Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is offering free rapid HIV testing at seven health centers across the organization's four-state region throughout the day in recognition of World AIDS Day. 

3. GOP scrambles to broaden bill's appeal
Senate Republicans weigh scaling back tax cuts in their massive package to secure crucial support after congressional analysts say the legislation would add $1 trillion to the deficit.

4. NORAD Santa Tracker goes live
It's December 1 and NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, has launched its Santa tracker website.

5. Warmer day Friday
Friday will be a warmer day with some gusty west winds.  Highs will reach the 60 degree mark in Denver with mid-40s to low 50s in the mountains.
