After serious crash, I-70 open again in both directions at Genesee

GENESEE, Colo. — A major crash that seriously injured four people forced officials to close down I-70 near Genesee on Monday afternoon.

Police made the call to close I-70 in both directions just before 3 p.m. after a pileup involved multiple cars. Cameras show vehicles stopped on both sides of the road.

The interstate was closed to clear space for a helicopter to land to evacuate four people with injuries.

Officials say tire failure prompted a truck to drift into the median and roll over into a minivan driving the opposite way.

Three people in the van were seriously injured and transported, as was the person driving the truck. One of the victims in the van was airlifted from the scene.

Most eastbound lanes were opened by 4:30 p.m., and the westbound lanes opened up again just after 5 p.m.
