DURANGO, Colo. – A woman who organized a community search for Dylan Redwine’s remains has called it off.

Texas resident Shelly Watson announced Monday that a search of Middle Mountain would not take place Friday as planned. The area has been a focal point following the discovery of some of Dylan’s remains in 2013 and again in 2015.

The planned eight-day search was canceled after last week’s arrest of Dylan’s father, Mark Redwine, who was arrested July 22 in Bellingham, Washington, in connection with his son’s murder.

Watson told the Durango Herald that she might plan a future search if the need arises. However, La Plata County authorities say there is no need for additional searches.

Mark Redwine is fighting extradition back to Colorado, where he is facing charges of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. His next court hearing is scheduled for August 17 in Washington.
