Schools take precautions while police search for people who stole a puffer car

DENVER - Three Denver schools briefly enacted security protocols while Denver Police searched the area for suspects who abandoned a stolen vehicle.

The car was dumped along South Sheridan Boulevard, south of West Yale Avenue. Officers believe the suspects left the vehicle and ran off on foot, Denver Police Spokesman Sonny Jackson explained at 8:20 a.m.

Jackson also said the stolen vehicle was a puffer, a car left running unattended -- which is illegal.

John F. Kennedy High School, Traylor Fundamental Academy and Henry Middle School are all located west of Sheridan and were the three facilities that enacted the lockout procedures. Denver Public School Spokesman Doug Schepman explained the lockouts were lifted at 8:53 a.m.

Denver Police say two suspects were located and arrested.

Lakewood Police were also seen participating in the search.
