DENVER — The woman and child at the center of Colorado's most recent AMBER Alert were found safe Friday afternoon after police located the two less than a day after they were abducted at gunpoint.

Officers say they're still looking for 22-year-old Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez, although he may have been spotted in the metro area on Friday afternoon. Police said they found Samantha Adams, 26, and Zahid Adams, 1, safe and sound in the area of 2100 Delaware before taking them to a nearby hospital.

Adams County Sheriff's Office officials headed up the investigation, but police in Pueblo said they received information that Adams and her child were driven, along with Venzor-Gonzalez, to the Denver metro area from the Pueblo area early Friday afternoon.

A hunt is still underway in the Denver metro area to locate Venzor-Gonzalez and police are still taking tips on his location or potential sighting.

On Thursday, police said Venzor-Gonzalez took Adams — who is Venzor-Gonzalez's ex-girlfriend — and her child at gunpoint. Police said the man, who has open arrest warrants out of Adams and Arapahoe Counties, started driving south on I-25.

Police soon after found the vehicle he reportedly used to abduct the two victims in the Pueblo area. Search efforts, and the AMBER Alert, continued overnight with no notable police activity until roughly 12:30 p.m.
