Skier died after hitting sign, coroner says

Officials have determined that a 39-year-old man killed in a skiing accident at Beaver Creek Resort died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis said Sam Beall died after hitting a sign attached to a wooden post between runs, according to the coroner. Beall was wearing a helmet.

Beall owned Blackberry Farm in Tennessee, a luxury hotel and event destination in the Great Smoky Mountains.

His toxicology report is not yet available.

The Blackberry Farm website says Beall, "was born at Blackberry Farm and makes it his family’s home today." Beall's father, Sandy Beall, is the founder of the restaurant chain Ruby Tuesday Inc.

Beall leaves behind a wife and five children.
