DENVER — The Salvation Army in Denver will open the doors of the convention center on Thursday to feed hundreds of guests a warm Thanksgiving Day meal.

“We welcome everyone and it is our great pleasure to provide them with a warm Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls and even pumpkin pie,” said Mike Dickinson, The Salvation Army Intermountain Divisional Commander.

The doors of the Denver Convention Center, 700 14th Street, Exhibit Hall B, will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Guests are encouraged to use the entrance on Welton Street and can arrive as early as 9 a.m. Hot chocolate and coffee will be served as they wait outside.

More than 150 volunteers will greet them and lead them to their seats for a warm meal around 11 a.m. Once everybody is seated inside, around 11:30 a.m., volunteers will start serving the meals. The event will end around 1 p.m.

In line with its “Zero Hunger, Zero Waste” mission, King Soopers and City Market donated all of the food, which was prepared by the Denver Sheriff Department, Denver Broncos athletes and The Salvation Army staff and volunteers.

The Salvation Army is prepared to make 1,400 traditional Thanksgiving meal servings this year, including 950 pounds of turkey, 100 pounds of mashed potatoes, 200 pumpkin pies, 1,000 dinner rolls and 700 pints of milk.

“For more than 45 years we have partnered with The Salvation Army to help those who come seeking help, we are pleased to add another year to our tradition to serve those in need,” said Adam Williamson of King Soopers.
