DENVER — It may soon cost commuters more money to take public transportation in the Denver metro area.
The Regional Transportation District preliminarily approved a plan to increase fares that would take effect starting early next year.
After amonths-long public comment period, RTD’s financial administration and audit committee approved the plan Tuesday evening, but it must be approved at next week’s full board meeting for the increase to take effect.
The proposed increase would hike the ticket price for the A Line, rail service to Denver International Airport, to more than $10.
Here are some of the changes that would take effect next year if the increase is approved:
- Increase Local fare to $3, Regional fare to $5.25 and fare to Denver International Airport to $10.50.
- Increase the discount offered to riders between 6 and 19 years old to 70 percent.
- Introduce a 3-hour pass, which would replace a 3-hour one-way transfer.
