RIFLE, Colo. – A Rifle man wanted for first-degree murder in the death of his son-in-law was arrested in Oregon.

Michael Francis Montgomery, 45, was arrested Monday in Ontario, Oregon on a warrant obtained by Rifle Police for the March 29 murder of Christopher Lee Gallegos, 28.

Montgomery is accused of using a semi-automatic handgun in the shooting death of Gallegos. His body was found in the 2600 block of Acacia Avenue in Rifle. A possible motive was not released.

Rifle Police quickly identified Montgomery as the suspect and began a search with the assistance of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The Ontario Police Department and the High Desert Drug Task Force arrested him without incident Monday and booked him into the Malheur County Jail.

He is expected to be extradited back to Colorado to face charges.
