NORTHGLENN, Colo. — Police in Northglenn said they found that the reported theft of multiple beehives from a property along E. 120th Avenue was a misunderstanding.

Shannon Sublette said her family had owned a dairy farm, The Mercantile at Karl's Farm, on the property for decades and recently decided to shut down the operations and sell the land. Then, last week, she learned all 30 beehives were gone.

On Wednesday, Sublette told Denver7 that the bees were located near Golden.

Northglenn police said there was a misunderstanding about clearing the remaining items off the property.

Somebody was under the impression that they could take anything from the property, so they took the bees and sold them on Craigslist to a person who bought them, and then saw news about the missing hives, Sublette said. That buyer then called Northglenn police.

Sublette said she is getting the bees back and the buyer is getting his money back from the seller.

However, not all the hives made it. Sublette said there were only nine still alive as of Wednesday.
