DENVER – 2016 was a record-breaking year for Denver International Airport.
Officials announced on Friday that a total of 58,266,515 passengers traveled through the airport last year. That’s a new record, smashing the previous record of 54,014,502 passengers that was set in 2015.
In addition to record numbers for the year, DIA also saw its 16th consecutive month of record-setting passenger traffic in December as well as its busiest single day, with 188,486 people traveling through the airport on Nov. 27.
“Denver International Airport has now seen three consecutive years of impressive record-setting passenger growth, driven by strong demand for travel to and from Denver, large increases in airline capacity and our efforts to secure new airlines and destinations around the world,” CEO Kim Day said.
The airport added five new airlines and offered flights to 12 new cities around the world last year.
International traffic accounted for 2,304,253 of the airport’s total passengers and represented a 5.1 percent increase over 2015.
