Good morning. Here are 5 Things to Know for Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
1. Primary Election Day
Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Colorado and voters will decide on which candidate from each party will continue on to the upcoming general election. There are contested primaries in several of the statewide races, including the gubernatorial race, the State Treasurer’s Office race and the Democratic side of the attorney general race. Find your polling or drop-off location here.
2. Affordable housing program gets initial OK
The Denver City Council gave initial approval to LIVE Denver, a program that aims to rent out existing, vacant apartments around Denver to those with limited incomes, with the city subsidizing a portion of the rent. The council will need to vote on the program one more time before it's approved.
3. Broomfield talks oil and gas
The City of Broomfield will again attempt to discuss new regulations on oil and gas tonight. The last time the council discussed the topic, earlier this month, oil and gas representatives walked out. The council will be discussing the voter-approved ordinance which calls for tougher regulations, including a new permit process, inspection rules and noise/dust mitigation.
4. Aurora selects new mayor
Aurora City Council member Bob Legare was sworn in as Aurora's new mayor Monday night. He takes over for Steve Hogan, who died in May. Legare will serve out the remainder of Hogan's term, which runs through Nov. 2019.
5. Hot and dry
Tuesday through Friday will be in the mid to upper 90s with 100 degrees possible on Thursday. If the high reaches 100 on Thursday, it will set a new record, beating the old mark of 99 degrees, set in 1986.
