Police shoot, kill armed trespassing suspect in Mesa County

LOMA, Colo. – Authorities in Mesa County are investigating an officer-involved shooting which led to the death of a reportedly armed trespassing suspect Saturday morning.

Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Fruita Police Department, were called to a home in the 1200 block of M ¾ Road in Loma around 10 a.m.

A 911 caller stated that her neighbor was on her property and was carrying a gun, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Arriving officers located the suspect who was armed with a firearm. The suspect was not compliant and was ultimately shot by law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified, was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

No law enforcement officers were injured in this incident.

The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating this incident.
