LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Police said Monday that a second person who was stabbed at Belmar Park early Thursday morning died over the weekend and that a suspect was still being sought.
Police said they still are not sure if the two stabbings are related despite them occurring about a half-mile apart within a span of about seven hours.
The man who died over the weekend was stabbed just after midnight Thursday at Belmar Park near the Lakewood Heritage Center. Police said two men were in the park when another man came up and stabbed one of them several times before fleeing on foot.
Police said Monday that man had died over the weekend from the stab wounds. His name has not been released. Lakewood police said the suspect in that stabbing is a white or Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s who is approximately 6 feet tall and 150 pounds with short, black hair.
He was clean-shaven and wearing a black hoody and black pants at the time of the stabbing.
Later that morning, just before 7 a.m., police were called again to the park, where they found a man dead of stab wounds at the Colorado Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Police identified the victim as Stevan Sandvick, 61.
“At this time, it is still unclear if these two incidents are related,” Lakewood police said Monday.
