DENVER – Englewood police said Thursday that a suspected pipe bomb found in a field near Englewood Alternative High School on Saturday was indeed an active explosive device.

The bomb was found around 4 p.m. on Saturday lying on the football field. The Arapahoe County Bomb Squad took custody of the device, and police cleared the area.

Police said Thursday the bomb squad determined the device was indeed an active explosive and then rendered it safe.

Investigators are still looking for information on how the device ended up in the football field and who placed it there. The Englewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to call them at 303-761-7410.

Englewood police said Wednesday that another suspicious package found in the area Wednesday, in the 4400 block of South Huron Street, was not an explosive device.
