AURORA, Colo. – An Aurora Police Department officer is on paid administrative leave after firing a gun while taking two vehicle theft suspects into custody.

Police said Gang Intervention Unit officers approached a possibly stolen vehicle in the 1000 block of South Fairplay Way at about 9:26 p.m. Thursday and upon making contact with two juvenile males in the car, one of the officers fired a shot.

It wasn't clear if the officer fired at the suspects, but police said there were no injuries to either the suspects or officers. Both boys were taken into custody.

The Denver Police Department and Aurora’s Major Crimes/Homicide Unit are jointly investigating the shooting.
