MORGAN COUNTY, Colo. — A pilot and a minor were both extricated from an ultra-light aircraft that crashed in Morgan County on Sunday morning.
Around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Hillrose Fire Department, Morgan County Ambulance Service and the Colorado State Patrol responded to a report of a plane crash.
When the authorities at the scene, which was along the 33000 block of Morgan County Road W, south of Hillrose, they saw the downed small aircraft.
Local witnesses told authorities that the plane, which was described as an ultra-light aircraft, appeared to hit nearby power lines, according to the sheriff's office. Two power poles were broken in the crash. The aircraft was leaking fuel following the crash, so witnesses extricated the pilot and the passenger, who was a minor. Witnesses told authorities both had seat belts on, according to the sheriff's office.
The pilot and passenger were transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Their conditions are unknown.
The sheriff's office, National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. The cause is not yet known.
