AURORA, Colo. — Quincy Reservoir in Aurora, a popular place for fishing, bird-watching and walking, has closed early for the season due to ongoing problems with blue-green algae.

The reservoir typically closes on Oct. 31, but closed Wednesday for the season.

Blue-green algae became an issue over the summer in Colorado and across the United States after dogs that had been swimming in warm, calm bodies of water became sick and died.

Pets and swimming are prohibited at the Quincy Reservoir. The algae was first reported at the reservoir in August.
