DENVER -- One of two suspects injured in an officer-involved shooting in northeastern Denver Monday night has died.

Denver police said Tuesday morning that the suspect, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second suspect is expected to recover.

Police said no officers were injured.

The two suspects were taken into custody after a high-speed chase that began as part of a day-long manhunt for attempted murder suspect Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez, who escaped from custody at Denver Health Medical Center Monday morning.

Denver Police Spokesman John White said the investigation into the escapee's whereabouts led undercover officers to an undisclosed address in Aurora earlier in the day.

Officers began watching a house for signs of Venzor-Gonzalez when an SUV suddenly took off from the home.

Aurora officers gave chase, following the suspects at high speed into Denver, where DPD officers joined in.

According to White, authorities followed the suspects into a neighborhood near East 41st Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in Denver, where the chase ended in a crash. Police haven't clarified whether the suspects' injuries were a result of the crash or the shooting and it wasn't clear who fired the shots.

Police said additional information on the incident likely wouldn't be available until Thursday.

As of Tuesday morning, Venzor-Gonzalez was still on the run. Police say he should be considered dangerous and possibly armed.

Anyone who sees the suspect should call 911.
