One person is dead after an experimental plane crashed.
The single-engine plane crashed in an open field, just north of Buena Vista and about a quarter mile from Highway 24, according to Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze.
Tadeusz Morawa Denver7 he heard the plane's engines misfiring and then saw the crash around 12:15 p.m. on Monday.
"There was big black smoke and then another explosion," Morawa said.
Deputies are investigating the cause of the crash.
The victim's age and identity have not yet been released.
