1. Maryland shooting suspect charged
The man accused of shooting and killing five employees at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder. Officials said the man had targeted the paper and once filed a defamation lawsuit.

2. Wildfires continue to burn across Colorado
We're tracking the latest on several new wildfires that broke out Thursday in Colorado. The largest of the new fires, the Spring Fire in Costilla County, is estimated to be more than 14,000 acres in size.

3. Walmart shooting suspect in court
Scott Ostrem, the man accused of killing three people at a Thornton Walmart store last year will be in court for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors plan to lay out their evidence to see if the case can go to trial.

4. Scooter permits due
Starting today, electric scooter companies have to be officially registered to operate their electric scooter companies in Denver. LimeBike was the first company to introduce dockless scooters to Denver streets and sidewalks. The company BIRD then followed suit.

5. Cooler today but still hot
After tying the all-time record of 105 degrees yesterday, Denver will end the week on a slightly cooler note with highs in the mid-90s. A few more gusty thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, but we'll see a better chance of storms and hopefully some rain on Saturday.
