DENVER — Victims in Denver courtrooms may find a little more comfort during difficult situations thanks to the Denver District Attorney’s Office’s newest staff member, Rylan.

Rylan is a 2-year-old Labrador and golden retriever mix. He is highly trained and will help provide comfort and support to crime victims the courtroom, the Denver DA’s Office said.

He was trained for two years and learned more than 40 commands. His handler, who volunteered to house and care for Rylan, also participated in two weeks of intensive training to learn how to work with him.

The dog is valued at $50,000, but Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit that provides highly trained assistance dogs to those in need, gave him to the DA's Office free of charge.
