DENVER (AP) — Colorado health officials have given a mine permission to continue dumping waste in a creek near a Denver water reservoir.
The Denver Post reports the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment water-quality commissioners voted unanimously this week to allow Climax Molybdenum to continue discharging molybdenum into Ten Miles Creek.
The commissioners say Climax has until June 2020 to meet state standards.
The commissioners want Climax to use this time to determine how much molybdenum is too much for people.
They also want the mine to come up with a strategy to bring the pollution of the creek down to acceptable levels.
