Milky Way overtakes Twix as Colorado's favorite Halloween candy this year

DENVER – Colorado homes will be handing out more Milky Way chocolate bars than any other candy this Halloween.

That’s according to bulk candy seller candystore.com, which analyzed 10 years of sales and distribution data to come up with the most popular Halloween candies in all 50 states.

At an estimated 5,620 pounds sold, Milky Way is Colorado’s most popular this year. Last year’s top candy, Twix, dropped to second place this year, with 5,478 pounds. Third place goes to Hershey Kisses with 4,087 pounds.

The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend a total of about $9.1 billion this year, $2.7 billion of which will be spent on candy. In addition, 71 percent of people who observe the holiday plan to hand out candy.
