DENVER – Thousands will be celebrating weed, ganja, Mary Jane, pot, dope or whatever else you want to call marijuana at Denver's Civic Center Park this Friday - but the event won't be organized by the same people who've been holding the rally for the past several years.

That's because the City of Denver took away the event's permit from the 4/20 Rally organizers and banned them from holding the event for three years after mountains of trash were found at Civic Center Park the morning after the festival in 2017.

Instead, the event will be held by another group of people who have billed the event the "Official 420 Rally."

The difference this year? More requirements and a "cleaner" atmosphere.

"We were required to have a double fence," said Pepe Breton of Euflora, one of the main sponsors for the event. "The event last year was a complete disaster. This year we have a cleaning crew during the day and after the event. We even have five times as many dumpsters as last year."

Breton said the event is costing them between $400,000 to $700,000. He said a good amount of that was dedicated to the fence and security.

"We're going to have more security for this event and have metal detectors, which is a first time for this event," Breton said.

According to the Official 420 Rally website, the event is set to begin at 10 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. and is free of charge.
