ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. – The man suspected of shooting a gun during an argument with another person over dog poop earlier this week was arrested Thursday evening, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Jonathan Emile Dismel, 38, was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Thursday after deputies served a search warrant at his apartment in the 8800 block of E. Florida Ave., the sheriff’s office said. Spokesperson Ginger Delgado said that Dismel had a gun in his possession when he was arrested.

Delgado said that Dismel and another man were walking their dogs near S. Parker Rd. and E. Florida Ave. when they got into an argument about picking up their dogs’ waste, and that Dismel is believed to have fired a handgun.

An arrest affidavit obtained by Denver7 Friday states Dismel pulled the gun from underneath his jacket and fired a single round into the ground "partially out of fear as well as anger."

Emergency phone call alerts went out to people in the area asking them to shelter in place out of an abundance of caution as deputies figured out what was going on, ACSO spokesperson Jared Rowlison said in an interview Wednesday.

Deputies set up a search perimeter that evening but did not find him until the warrant was served Thursday evening.

The sheriff’s office said that Dismel was booked into the Arapahoe County jail for investigation on charges of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, menacing, prohibited use of weapons, reckless endangerment and harassment.

He is being held without bond pending his next court appearance, the sheriff’s office said.
