DENVER – A man convicted of shooting and killing a Metro Taxi driver during an attempted robbery was given the maximum sentence Friday.
Dasean Perry, 20, will be spending the next 48 years in prison. He was 19 when he and another teen, Nicholas McKinney, 18, allegedly shot and killed Darren Bloomquist, 49, inside his taxi on Sep.5, 2015.
Bloomquist picked up the teens in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood. He was found shot to death not too far from where he picked up the fare.
Metro Taxi said Bloomquist lived a selfless life, even serving his country as a member of the Air Force. He was moonlighting as a cab driver to support his wife, whom Metro Taxi described as physically challenged.
The case against McKinney is pending.
