LITTLETON, Colo. — The man at the center of a missing person investigation in Littleton will not face charges in an unrelated sex assault case.
The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that it would be dropping the sex assault case against Jeffrey Scott Beier.
District Attorney George Brauchler said pursuing charges into the alleged assault could hurt the investigation into the unrelated disappearance of Beier’s girlfriend, Charlene Voight.
The accuser in one of the sex assault cases was one of the last people to see Voight alive, and the district attorney says the case has become "intertwined" with Voight's disappearance.
Voight has not been seen since June 29. Her car was found abandoned in a dirt lot at 5099 South Rio Grande Street. No charges have been filed in the case.
Brauchler said the case against Beier were dropped in the interest of justice and without prejudice, which means he could face the same charges at another time.
The victim in the sex assault case does not object to the dismissal, according to the Brauchler.
