Man arrested on first-degree murder charge after woman found dead in Mesa County

UPDATE | Tuesday, 5:45 p.m. — The woman found dead along the 2900 block of Sandra Avenue in Mesa County on Tuesday has been identified as Brianna Carpenter, 28, of Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office. The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Her death has been ruled a homicide.


MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Deputies in Mesa County arrested a man on a first-degree murder charge after a woman was found dead early Tuesday morning.

Around 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a call about shots fired along the 2900 block of Sandra Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they found a 28-year-old woman with injuries and began CPR. The woman was transported to a hospital, where she died, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators arrested Aaron Carpenter, 33, of Grand Junction, on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

The woman's name has not been released.

Deputies determined this was an isolated incident. It is still under investigation.
