LOVELAND, Colo. – A man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he broke into a home in Loveland on Saturday night and assaulted two people with a baseball bat.

Andrew Matthews, 31, of Fort Collins, fled the home before police arrived, but officers took him into custody later last night, according to a Loveland police news release.

The incident happened about 11:22 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of East Eisenhower Boulevard, where officers responded to a report of a home invasion burglary. Police said the suspect entered the home armed with a baseball bat and assaulted two people, who were taken to Medical Center of the Rockies, police said.

Matthews was later arrested and taken to the Larimer County Detention Center, where he was booked on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of second-degree assault and first-degree burglary.

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call detective Brad Templeman at 970-667-2151.
