FAIRPLAY, Colo. — A man accused of holding his live-in girlfriend against her will and physically and sexually assaulting her at a home in the Fairplay area was arrested during a SWAT operation Sunday.
James Schwarz, 36, was taken into custody without incident and charged with several counts including second degree kidnapping, sex assault, and menacing with a weapon.
The Park County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the home and deputies made contact with the victim who told them that Schwarz was armed with several firearms and wanted to commit “suicide by cop,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies surveyed the home and saw the suspect outside the house walking around with what appeared to be an AR-15 type rifle, the sheriff’s office said. Shortly after, The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded with a SWAT team to assist the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
SWAT members moved in on the house and contacted Schwarz, who turned himself in with no incident. No persons were injured in the event.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Park County Jail.
