Man accused in West Highlands knife attack was resident at assisted living center

DENVER -  The man accused of cutting the throat of a patron at a West Highlands pub in a seemingly random attack was living at an assisted living center nearby.

Anthony Marquette Ealy, 46, appeared in court Friday. He is being held for investigation of first-degree assault and attempted murder for the Wednesday evening attack at the Mead St. Station Bar and Grill on West 32nd Avenue.

Ealy was a resident at Heather Grove Assisted Living at 3289 N. Grove St. when he walked into the Mead St. Station and allegedly cut the throat of a man sitting at the bar, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim, a regular at the business, sustained serious injuries.

Ealy had been drinking at the bar and then stepped outside. When he came back inside, he produced a knife and cut the victim’s throat and pulled him backwards off the bar stool, the affidavit read. 

Ealy had been a regular at the bar, the owner told police. Witnesses told police that Ealy was a “little off” and usually walked to Mead St. Station, according to the affidavit.

Records also show the arrest is the man's first in Colorado. It's not yet known when formal charges will be filed. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
