DENVER — Two people are dead and another seriously injured after a major crash involving multiple vehicles closed both directions of I-70 near Genesee Monday night.
The crash occurred in the westbound lanes. However, the Colorado Department of Transportation has reported that both directions of the interstate are closed at Genesee Park (milemaker 254).
Traffic on I-70 is backed up for several miles in both directions. CDOT is suggesting U.S. 6 through Clear Creek Canyon as an alternate route.
The Colorado State Patrol tweeted that two people were killed and one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers are on scene working to determine what caused the crash.
CDOT said motorists should expect an extended closure.
