DENVER — Users of Lyft will soon start seeing information on public transportation alongside the company’s own ridesharing and scooter offerings.
Lyft announced on Monday that it is partnering with the Regional Transportation District to roll out its “Nearby Transit” feature to users in Denver.
Nearby Transit shows route and schedule information for public transportation like buses and light rail within the Lyft app. Uber announced a similar feature in January.
Officials say the feature helps people fill in existing gaps in public transit coverage. Lyft says 23 percent of its Denver customers use the rideshare service in places where transit isn’t available.
“Equity is a value that we’re applying to everything we do, including mobility, and first-mile, last-mile gaps often stand in the way of our residents and neighborhoods being able to choose transit as a reliable mobility option," said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. "Nearby Transit is one more tool we can deploy to fill those service gaps and make that easy connection to transit options available for our residents."
The Nearby Transit feature is currently only available in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Seattle and Washington, DC.
