DENVER – Some much-needed snow came just in time for Colorado’s Rocky Mountain ski resorts, and people looking to hit the slopes over the Thanksgiving holiday will have a handful of mountains to choose from.

As of Thursday, there are twelve resorts open in Colorado after Winter Park and Steamboat had their opening days Wednesday.

On Friday, Beaver Creek and Vail are set to open, bringing the total number of mountains available for riding and skiing this weekend to 12 statewide.

Many of Colorado’s resorts have pushed back their opening days by at least a week or more because of dry, warm conditions that persisted in the mountains through mid-November.

Despite the lack early season snow, out-of-state bookings do not appear to be affected.

Denver-based research company Destimetrics, which tracks ski bookings, shows reservations are up 15 percent over the same time last year.

Several other areas have still not announced their opening days, and many are set to open in December.
