BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Colorado counties could lose $70 million in reimbursements on 2013 flood recovery projects because of recently enacted rules by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Daily Camera reports U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, and Reps. Jared Polis and Ken Buck sent a joint letter Monday to FEMA Administrator William Long, urging the agency to reimburse for the recovery projects and provide guidance to ensure pending projects are funded.
Boulder County could lose up to $50 million in projects and Larimer County could lose $20 million.
FEMA is withholding reimbursements, citing recent interpretations of agency regulations that require all disaster recovery projects to follow uniform codes to be eligible.
The lawmakers are asking Long to reinterpret provisions of a federal law to allow for project eligibility to be re-evaluated.
