DENVER — June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and the Denver Zoo is celebrating a same-sex couple amongst its flock: Two male flamingos.

Zoo staff said the birds, a Chilean flamingo named after *NSYNC boy band member Lance Bass and an American flamingo named after Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, have been together for “several years.”

Though the pair obviously can’t reproduce together, Lance and Freddie can serve as surrogate parents if a breeding pair is unable to care for their own chick, the zoo said.

Happy Pride, Lance and Freddie!
