DENVER – A Lakewood mosque is asking for an increase in police protection following a series of threatening and obscene phone calls.

The Colorado chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations reported Tuesday that a man called the Rocky Mountain Islamic Center in Lakewood making obscene statements such as "Allah is a f---ing pig" and claiming that “his God was not the same as the God of Islam."

Council leaders said the caller also reportedly stated: "You guys are going to pay for Manchester and London.” The same individual apparently called other mosques in Northglenn and Denver.

The Lakewood Police Department told mosque leaders that it will increase patrols around the area. The FBI was also notified.

Colorado mosques have been the target of threats and vandalism in the past, and Tuesday's alleged event is one of at least a half-dozen possibly hate-related incidents in the state since November.
