BOULDER, Colo. -- The police chief in Boulder released a statement Thursday on the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation saying, "We have not and will not give up. We remain focused on this investigation and finding justice for JonBenet."
Six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the basement of her family's home the day after Christmas 1996 after her mother Patsy Ramsey called 911 to say her daughter was missing and that a ransom note had been found.
Chief Greg Testa likely issued the statement in response to several movies, documentaries and a new book being released over the next few weeks regarding the case.
"Publications and movies offer many theories on how this crime occurred and who is responsible," Testa said in the video statement.
While Testa said, "Facts have been surmised and often distorted, which has led to many conclusions," he did not say anything about those conclusions and who has been cleared or not cleared by the investigation.
In 2008, then-District Attorney Mary Lacy released a statement that said DNA discovered in the case had a "genetic profile belongs to a male and does not belong to anyone in the Ramsey family."
"The Boulder District Attorney's Office does not consider any member of the Ramsey family, including John, Patsy, or Burke Ramsey, as suspects in this case," Lacy wrote.
Testa did release new statistics about the investigation. He said investigators have:
- Processed more than 1,500 pieces of evidence
- Analyzed of over 200 DNA samples
- Received and reviewed or investigated more than 20,000 tips, letters or emails.
- Traveled to over 18 states
- Interviewed, or spoken, with more than 1,000 individuals
"The Boulder Police Department is committed to finding justice for JonBenet through a methodical and comprehensive investigation while looking at all aspects of the case," Testa said. "This is an open investigation. Investigators from our major crime's unit are assigned to this case."
Testa said no other comments will be made until the police department has "new information to announce in this case."

Ramsey family
Since JonBenet's death, her mother has passed away. Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006. She was buried next to her daughter in Marietta, Georgia.
JonBenet's father, John Ramsey, remarried in July 2011. He wrote a book, "The Other Side of Suffering," that recounts how his faith helped him navigate from suffering to forgiveness.
JonBenet's brother, Burke Ramsey, was nine when his sister was killed. He recently gave an interview to Dr. Phil that will air later this month.
In the interview, he told Dr. Phil that he knew his family were suspects in the crime.
He said he's speaking out now because he wants "to honor her memory. I don't want anyone to forget."
