GOLDEN, Colo. — It has been said more times than we can count at this point: The pandemic has changed a lot of the ways we do things this year. But in Jefferson County, they found a way to do one of their more heartwarming traditions that usually takes place this weekend.

National Adoption Day is usually the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but this year, they moved a number of them to virtual adoptions. There were a few in-person socially distanced ones in Jefferson County on Friday. It’s something the court's judge felt compelled to keep going this year somehow.

“I just have the deepest gratitude for the families who take this on and commit to these kids and just love them like they would any of their own,” Jefferson County District Court Judge Gail Meinster said.

The court held adoptions both Friday and Saturday to help spread out the number of adoptions.
