Investigation underway after man's body found in Big Soda Lake Wednesday morning

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — An investigation has started after authorities were notified of a dead person in a lake at a popular Lakewood park.

On Wednesday around 7:20 a.m., police in Lakewood police responded to a report of a body in Big Soda Lake at Bear Creek Lake Regional Park. A family had been kayaking on the lake that morning when they found the body floating in the lake, police said.

Lakewood police and West Metro Fire's dive team were both dispatched to the area and recovered the body of an adult male.

At that time, authorities did not see any signs of obvious trauma to the man, police said.

On Tuesday evening, park rangers had found a small capsized boat in the lake. While they searched the area, they did not find anybody and no vehicles were located in the area.

The man's identity has not been released.
