DENVER — When Denver's citywide curfew went into effect at 9 p.m., hundreds of protesters remained on the downtown streets.
But the crowds on Monday night remained peaceful, and the tensions seen between protesters and police in previous nights was not yet apparent.
In one powerful moment, the large crowd stopped on 19th and Broadway and sat on the ground in silence for nine minutes for George Floyd, the Minnesota black man who died after an officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes last week.

Earlier Monday evening, thousands of protesters outside of the State Capitol knelt in silence for Floyd, raising their fists in the air.
Several fireworks were shot off shortly after 9 a.m., and drivers honked their horns. But as the crowds moved back south, toward the Capitol building, the protesters remained peaceful.
