LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Police are investigating after a woman said her brother-in-law jumped from a car during a fight Thursday night.
Lakewood agents found the man lying in the middle of Garrison Street near West 10th Avenue around 11:40 p.m. They also found that power poles and traffic signals had been knocked down.
The man was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
During the investigation, detectives were able to track down the woman.
"She indicated that the two had been arguing while traveling on Garrison St. and that he had jumped from their moving vehicle," said Lakewood Police Department said in a press release.
The woman told police the vehicle hit the power poles and traffic signals while she was trying to bring the car under control.
The damaged vehicle was located several blocks from the crash scene.
"Detectives were working to establish who was driving," said Steve Davis, a spokesperson for the Lakewood Police Department.
Detectives were investigating the circumstances behind the man’s death and whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
The sister-in-law, who has not been identified, did not call police to alert them to the accident, Davis told Denver7.
The names of the woman and man were not being released until relatives could be notified.
The crash cut power to 1,700 people.
Several trucks were working to put up a new power pole in the area early Friday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lakewood Police Department at (303) 987-7111.
Editor's Note: Denver7 originally reported it was the wife who was inside the vehicle before the man jumped to his death based on a press release sent by the Lakewood Police Department. The department later clarified their previous statement, saying they believed it was the sister-in-law who was inside the car with the man. The man's wife was in a second vehicle in the vicinity and stopped after the accident occurred, police said.
