DENVER — The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment announced that for the third year, the Denver Public Library and Denver Animal Shelter are teaming up to give some shelter dogs — and human workers in Denver — some fresh air and exercise.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 8, the program will pair a person with a shelter dog for a walk as part of the Human Walking Program. Participants are encouraged to meet at the North Lawn at the Denver Central Library at W. 14th Avenue and N. Broadway.
“Can you imagine what it’s like to be tethered to a desk with nothing but a mouse for entertainment?” said Laurie Spurling, a library program manager. “We want to break the shackles of sedentary, corporate life for some of our downtown neighbors by getting them outside with big-hearted, friendly and adoptable dogs from the Denver Animal Shelter."
Shelter dogs are available for walks on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each pair will be accompanied by a Denver Animal Shelter handler, who will provide assistance, as they walk around the library lawn.
