DENVER — For regular thrift store shoppers like myself, there is no greater time of year than Halloween. For decades now I’ve been combing the racks at  thrift stores to come up with creative costumes.

Last year, I was the kid from “Stranger Things” and put together my 80’s outfit for just a few dollars.

As a mom, I’ve also found several of my kids' costumes at thrift stores for pennies on the dollar. The racks at Goodwill are packed full of princess and action hero costumes, some gently used, others brand new.

Thrifty parents should also keep in mind they can combine similar clothing items to create popular costumes. My son is going to be Woody from “Toy Story” with a costume we found on the rack and a kid’s cowboy hat.

Keep an eye on Goodwill’s website for details on special 50 percent off days this season as well as events and fundraisers. Happy Halloween hunting!
